Scottsdale, AZ—Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions has announced the addition of a fourth auction to its repertoire in 2019, with its first East Coast sale slated for next March at Amelia Island, FL, concurrent with the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance weekend. Amelia Island has become the third leg of the high-end collector car auction stool, with most of the major collector car auction houses sprouting around Bill Warner’s well-regarded concours weekend. Russo and Steele now adds Amelia to its other sales in Scottsdale (January) and Monterey (August), where auctions and buyers congregate in a bouillabaise of car salesmanship. R&S also has a stand-alone June sale in Newport Beach, CA. The announcement did not offer specific dates for the sale, a two-evening event with more than 250 collector autos slated to run through Russo’s signature “auction in the round”-style sales block. Site of the sale will be on the east end of the nearby Fernandina Beach Airport, some 10 minutes from the concours site at the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island. Russo is something of a late-comer to the Amelia milieu, with Gooding & Co.and RM Sotheby’s long established there, with Bonhams, Hollywood Wheels and Motostalgia brands the more recent arrivals to the scene. Russo and Steele CEO Drew Alcazar noted in a statement the new sale aims his company “directly at the epicenter of another major American car week event and much like our other venues, our team has established a long-term agreement with a host that will perpetuate the ‘only at R&S’ mandate we sought…(to) introduce…what we believe is the core of the hobby; FUN! We can’t wait to bring our signature philosophy of cars and camaraderie to Amelia Island.” For more information on dates, consignment and bidding, visit: russoandsteele.com.
