Milwaukee, WI — In addition to returning to Gateway Motorsports Park Aug. 23-24 for the second annual edition of “Open Wheel Icons” — in conjunction with IndyCar’s Bommarito 500 — the cars of the Vintage Indy Registry will come to the historic Milwaukee Mile June 15-16.
The Legends at the Mile event will be a companion to the ARCA Midwest Tour’s Father’s Day 75 — the first return since 2015 of a major motorsports event to the Mile.
A full field of vintage Indy cars are expected on the famed oval for multiple track sessions each day. And talk about the perfect setting: not only is the Milwaukee Mile the oldest operating motor speedway in the world, it’s steeped in more than 100 years of Indianapolis championship car racing history. Starting in 1947, the Mile held the distinction of hosting the first championship car race after the Indy 500. As Frank Capua, Paul Newman’s character in the film Winning, said, “Everybody goes to Milwaukee after Indianapolis!”
