Blenheim, Ontario, CANADA — Bidding opened today (May 11) for RM Sotheby’s online-only auction of nearly 90 racing, event and commemorative posters from 1925 to 1972 — all selling without reserve. The sale ends May 18 at 11 a.m. ET with lots closing in two-minute increments.
Presented from a lifelong collector, the group of posters highlights major venues and marques during some of motor racing’s greatest decades, spanning the spectrum from Formula 1, road racing and rally to art deco styling. Each authentic example is professionally archival linen-mounted and in exceptional original condition.
Leading the collection highlights is the V Carrera Panamericana, Mexico, 1954 event poster, a world-famous artwork in outstanding condition, designed to celebrate the fifth and final running of the Mexican road race, won by legendary Italian racing driver Umberto Maglioli in the Ferrari 375 Plus.
Also up for sale is a world-renowned piece by French painter Géo Ham, A.C.F, Reims, 1938. Created for the Auto Club de France, this original poster spotlights the 1938 Grand Prix motor race held at the Reims-Gueux circuit and comes complete with a tax stamp.
Additional road racing competitions are well represented within this collection, including several pieces created for the famed Mille Miglia, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Hours of Sebring and others.
The company’s recent online offering of classic and rare Porsche posters achieved over $89,000 in total sales and drew bidders from 16 countries.
