9/13/2012 - America's Car Museum to Stay Open Seven Days a Week, Year-Round
TACOMA, WA - LeMay - America-s Car Museum (ACM), which opened its four-level, 165,000-sq-ft facility in early June, is reacting to increasing demand and will continue to operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, year-round. This decision trumps the museum's original plan, which was to shift from seven to five days a week during the fall and winter months.
"Demand for our museum continues unabated, and we welcome the opportunity to meet popular demand," said Paul Miller, ACM chief operations officer. "This change of plan is a reflection of the growing interest in our museum locally as well as outside the Pacific Northwest."
ACM joins a select group of local museums, such as Seattle's Museum of Flight and EMP, that operate seven days a week, year-round, a schedule that ACM president and CEO David Madeira says is long-term: "This is not a limited time offer. Our doors will be open to the public every day of the week, something most museums don't have the luxury of doing. This is testament to the culture and spirit of our entire organization, our unique, interactive exhibitry and, most importantly, America's ongoing love affair with the automobile.
After raising more than $60 million in the midst of the recession, ACM broke ground in June 2010. Two years later, the museum is hosting everything from music festivals to motorcycle shows while showcasing exhibits that include Ferrari in America, Indy Cars, the British invasion of the ’60s, the classic car era, alternative propulsion, and the collections of jewelry magnate Nicola Bulgari and Tacoma icon Harold LeMay (whose vehicles were the impetus for creating the museum 14 years ago).
