5/5/2013 - 1938 Steyr Roadster Wins Best in Show at Pinehurst Concours
VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. - A rare 1938 Steyr Roadster captured the Best in Show at the inaugural Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance as more than 5,000 car enthusiasts strolled the fairways at Pinehurst Resort, viewing a show field of 118 pristine vintage automobiles.
Peter Boyle of Oil City, Pa., owns the winning automobile that was entered in the American/European Classic 1925-48 Class. Boyle purchased the car two years ago, restored it in 2012 and won 2nd in Class at the Pebble Beach Concours last August before capturing the top prize at Pinehurst Resort.
"It was a great weekend and I'm honored to win the Best in Show at an inaugural Concours here at Pinehurst," Boyle said.
The 6-cylinder 1938 model was one of just six produced by Steyr, three of which were destroyed in World War II, one is in a museum in Austria, one can't be found and one was in Pinehurst. "I'm almost one of one," Boyle said.
The Pinehurst Concours, which will be held again the first week of May in 2014 and 2015, drew a field of cars from over 20 states and as far away as Mexico.
