Elkhart Lake, WI – Mother nature gave us everything she had last weekend during the 2019 Weathertech International Challenge with Brian Redman by Hawk. There was heat, rain, wind, and maybe the threat of a little lightning sprinkled here and there. However – the fans, workers, and drivers gave everything right back and the result was another spectacular event at Road America.
Here are a few scenes from the weekend thanks to VM Photographer Scott Paceley and Circulation Manager Nick Lish. Look for Scott’s photos and Burt Levy’s words from the event in an upcoming issue of Vintage Motorsport. Until then, enjoy!
A group that always delivers excitement: Randy Rupp (1994 Ford Mustang Cobra), Dick Howe (1989 Ford Mustang T/A), and Colin Comer (1995 Ford Mustang GT-1) created a fast and loud Mustang trio.
Peter Cunningham (team owner, multi-championship winner, and all-around good guy) leads the pack of Modern GTU/Cup/Challenge cars onto the track in his 2009 Acura TSX.
Brad Hill was not going to let a little water keep him from having a blast in his 1975 Embassy Hill GH1.
The paddock car show on Sunday always draws a crowd and their cameras. This photographer was understandingly interested in Tom McGlynn’s 1976 Porsche 934.
You can practically hear, smell, and feel this 1969 Lola T163 with John Boxhorn behind the wheel.
While it is easy to get wrapped up in all the wonderful cars at an event like this, it is important to remember that people are the real reason it can happen. Often it is remarkable people that truly make an event special. No doubt long-time Road America chief George Bruggenthies knows this, and proudly displays memorial decals for Duck Waddle, Carl Jensen, and Jeff Green on his 1970 Surtees TS-8.
Friday evening was a scorcher, but thousands of fans still lined the streets and showed their support for the downtown race car parade. Kudos to them! It is a very special event to witness and everyone ends up smiling from ear to ear – just like Paula and Bob Hardison in their 1958 Echidna Special (all three Echidnas were at Road America celebrating the 60th anniversary of winning the 1959 B-modified National Championship – look for more on the Echidnas from us later on!).
The Victory Lane celebrations are a fun experience for racers and fans alike. Here Jason Miller, Rick Parsons, and Bruce Leeson celebrate their respective 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes in the F5000 group race.
A special thank you to those of you that stopped by the booth to see us. We appreciate your support of the magazine and enjoyed talking with everyone.
